Biography
Thomas Biagi was born in Bologna on May 7th, 1976. Thomas began his career in motor sport, in the Karting, following the steps of many Formula 1 drivers. Thomas debuted in the 60cc Minikart category in 1987. Between 1987 and 1992 Thomas achieved several wins and became Italian Champion in the 100cc Category.
1993
when he was just 16 years-old, Thomas took his first steps on single-seaters of Alfa Boxer Formula being the joungest Italian driver, and – always teenager – passed then in 1994 in Formula 3. There he belonged until 1995 when he arrived in the international category Formula 3000, competing with the the great names on world motor racing like Schumacher, Montoya, Fisichella, Trulli.
2001
Thomas was the only driver able to contend the Title to Felipe Massa until the last race of the F.3000 Euro Series. Today, Thomas is the one who has won the current Ferrari F1 driver on track: it happened with Donington victory during the GP and with the record poles in Monza and in Donington.
2003 is a special year
Thomas made a great move when he decided to become a FERRARI driver in the GT racing competition with the team “BMS Scuderia Italia”. The first race was in Barcellona when the italian driver obtained his first record: to be the first to win as an absolute beginner in FIA GT1 category. From here onward Biagi will reach further records! Till standing in the GT World Championship: 5 consecutive success records and the title of FIA GT WORLD CHAMPION.
2004 Thomas decided to leave the GT World Championship and accepted the challenge with another Ferrari, the 575 GTC, to race in the “Le Mans Endurance Series”. The Italian driver achieved a fantastic 2nd place, leading him straight into his first race in the “States”, at the 12 Hours of Sebring and attended the prestigious 24H of Le Mans.
2005 FIA GT Championship
After two years of success driving a Ferrari, Thomas returned to the FIA GT Championship, signing an agreement with the strong Team Vitaphone to drive the most sphere car: the Maserati MC12.
Thomas finished 4th in overall standing after fighting for the lead of the Championship until the last race, with 6 podiums and two Victories; three 3rd place and one 2nd place. Very important satisfaction for the Italian driver that help Maserati to win the constructor Championship and Vitaphone to win the Team Championship.
2006 FIA GT Championship
The year of the reconfirmation in Maserati. Two wins and 6 podiums repay the trust in Thomas by all the men of the big Modena’s Team.
2007 – World Champion for the second time
Thomas follows the trend of excellence; being the pilot with the highest score in the last 6 races of the 2006 season. He is re-confirmed for the third year in the Vitaphone Team. Thomas deserved strong belief hitting the Pilot World Championship – his second in FIA GT career over 4 presences – and strongly contributing in making Maserati gain the Constructor Title. The “graduation” arrived with the last race, third in Zolder, after a nervous race where the Pilot from Bologna won over four competitors, with a strong behaviour. A demanding season, with two wins (Silverstone and Oschersleben), that saw Thomas heading the ranks since his second race. The results are also second time “Autosprint Casco D’Oro” and FIA Trophy, handed over during the traditional ceremony in Sporting Club of Monte-Carlo.
2008 – Another Great Challenge
Our flagship pilot has been called upon by Amato Ferrari, who asked Thomas to drive the Ferrari F430 for the AF Corse Team, as title-holder in FIA GT. It’s time for new challenges for the pilot able to win two Championships with two different brands in recent past of global Gran Turismo.
In the season that Thomas expected to be “in apprenticeship”, his team AF Corse won the World Champion Title for the team and he placed 4th in the ranking thanks to the 4 podiums. Remarkable pole position during the SPA 24 Hours. He is simultaneously engaged by Ferrari to work on the development of the car for the A1 GP.
2009 to three championships:
Speedcar Series, and FIA GT1 Le Mans Series. Prototypes in category Sport wins the victory to debut at Barcelona in 1000 km, and concluded the season by dominating the 6 Hours of Vallelunga, confirming winning rider in all the categories in which he has experimented with so far.
2010 is the year of great change:
After 11 wins and 30 podiums in 58 races, 2 titles Champion and 4 Team titles Thomas switch from FIA GT to the emerging Superstars Championship with the Roberto Ravaglia’s BMW Team Italy.
