May 22nd, 2010 Portimao, qualifying: first pole position in the Superstars Series for Thomas Biagi

First pole position in the Superstars Series for Thomas Biagi at Portimao (Portugal) in the fourth round of the season.

The Italian driver of BMW Team Italy set the fastest time in 1’52.721 proceeding Alberto Cola (1’52.952, Audi) and his team mate Gianni Morbidelli (1’52.972).

Thomas Biagi:
“I am doubly satisfied for this pole position: in the past weeks I trained a lot for Portimao on the simulator of Grid GP, the new drivers’ lab that I realized with Ing. Mazzola, the historic manager of the Ferrari Formula One’s test team. The result has been excellent since the first free practice and the new approach has certainly contributed to my performance in qualifying.
The BMW Team Italy proved to be once again a perfect team, putting me in the best technical conditions as well as psychological thanks also to Roberto Ravaglia who is for me the maximum example of driver involved in touring races.

Tomorrow I will have to pay the due attention to the start, where the higher torque of Mercedes engine could get the better in the long straight after the start line.
I conclude with a thought to my Fan Club of Cento, tomorrow they will gather to support me in a pub of the town centre: I certainly will feel all of them as near as if they were here on grand stands”.

The Portuguese weekend will end tomorrow with the two races: the first taking place at 11.30 Italian time, while the second at 16.15. Both races will be covered live on Italian TV by La7 and will be proceeded by interviews from the starting grid.
