Thomas Biagi run some troubled races in Donington (United Kindgdom) during the fifth round of the Superstars Series that awarded points for the International classification only.
After the seventh lap-time in qualifying yesterday, today in race one the reigning champion had the maximum sportive ballast on board (i.e. 60kg) and produced a clever race that allowed him to harvest the seventh final place and some useful points for the classification with it.
Race two was more eventful as the Italian driver of BMW Team Italy has been protagonist of a good recover that took him up to the fourth position with a few laps to the end when a series of hard contacts by some rivals made him slip down to the ninth place under the chequered flag.
Thomas Biagi:
“I am really sorry for losing a precious forth place due to an excess of aggression of some rivals that, if not sanctioned, risks to progressively change the championship in an anti-sportive event. Despite the 60kg sportive ballast on board, in race one I managed to limit damages with the seventh place; it is crystal clear anyway that the less powerful a car is the higher the effect is of the handicap weight therefore the M3 BMW is the most penalyzed car by this mechanism. The only positive aspect of this weekend is perhaps the fact that the results obtained today will give me no ballast for next round in Misano”.
Biagi is currently third in the classification at 82 points, just eleventh shy the leader Ferrara (Mercedes); the Superstars Series will be back on track next 10 July in Misano Adriatico in a round valid again for the International series.
